THE convergence game just got more interesting with the launch of the Electrocompaniet ECI 6DS integrated amplifier .. although that description doesn’t do the product full justice.
The ECI 6DS, part of the company’s Classic line, is actually an all-in-one music system, in that it is also a streamer (wired/WiFi) and has a high-end USB-equipped DAC on board. If you’re the old-fashioned sort that doesn’t appreciate Internet radio, you can also connect your own source like a CD player to the ECI 6DS. Inputs are a-plenty – a digital coaxial and optical each, and four analogue sets (one XLR, three RCA).
The asynchronous USB input supports 24-bit/192kHz signals, as do the other digital ones.
This one is no wimp on the amp side either – it puts out 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms (200 into 4 ohms and is stable at 2 ohms, where it is rated at 370W), and weighs 21kg. It is also capable of a peak current delivery of 100A.
There is a rather interesting graphical remote control, which despite its range of features, is simple to use, according to the company.
Of course, there is a price to pay, and don’t forget, it comes from Norway – the ECI 6DS will retail at €5,320/£4,315 and is available from October.
