STREAMING music from your phone, computer or any mobile device to a wireless speaker system is getting to be increasingly a breeze, thanks to Bluetooth. And the manufacturer that knows a thing or two about wireless speakers is Audioengine, in this business for more than a dozen years.
The company has announced a new model now, the A2+, especially targeting computer audio and desktop users. This compact pair uses Bluetooth’s aptX codec that allows a transmission range of 30m or a bit more, without drop-outs or blips. According to the company, the aptX codec allows for “near lossless audio transmission that rivals the sound of many wired music systems.”
Class A/B analogue power amplifiers are built into the left speaker, and an auto-standby idle mode is included to conserve power when the system is not being fed any music.
Says the company: “A2+ is simple to use and designed for the way people listen to music today. Connect any way you like – wireless or wired, digital or analogue. Play your music library or stream TIDAL, Spotify, Pandora, and YouTube from just about anywhere in your house without dropouts. A2+ works seamlessly with all your favourite audio players and streaming music services.”
Set-up is a breeze, adds the company: “We’ve included connections for your phone, tablet, computer, and turntable – and you can even add a subwoofer. Wireless set-up takes about a minute and no apps to download or wi-fi passwords to enter. If you’re using the A2+ at your desk, connect directly to your computer with a USB cable for a high-end listening experience.”
The A2+ cabinets are constructed of 18mm-thick high-density fibreboard; woofer cones are made of high-quality Aramid fibre with custom voice coils and magnets, while the tweeters are of the silk-dome variety and neodymium fluid-stabilised.
Three finishes are provided – red, white and, what’s the other one… oh yes, black…
The A2+ retails at US$269 a pair, and is available now from over 400 authorised worldwide resellers or online direct.
