Marantz PM7001 KI

May 30, 2012 Leave a Comment Written by SUJESH PAVITHRAN

Rating: ★★★½☆

Hot: A very musical unit, with a typical “Marantz” midrange. Sweet treble with good bass control and extension. The amp has good “listenability” factor, and is able to draw you into the music. Power output is rated at 70W, but still able to drive moderate loads to high levels without breaking up. MM phono stage is not just there for appearances – it actually performs very well.

Cold: Not the most detailed or accurate amplifier out there. Not an immediately arresting sound, takes some time to grow on you.

Encore: A well thought-out product that will provide years of listening pleasure. It has features, great sound and a fine phono stage – definitely one to put on the shortlist of must-listen amplifiers.

Specs: 70 watts per channel / 6 audio inputs including 2 tape loops and 1 MM phono stage / Preamp out and main in connections / 2 pairs of speaker outputs Bypassable tone control and loudness functions / Headphone output / Copper-shielded chassis / Dimensions: 440 x 123 x 364mm (h/w/d), 10kg. Finish options: Black, silver.
