Audiolab 8200MB

June 5, 2012 Written by Editor

Rating: ★★★★☆

Hot: These monoblocs amps present an expansive and detailed aural perspective, especially when driven hard. Very nicely balanced with rock and fusion recordings. They’re honest and non-coloured amps, fluid, and show great poise and control. They don’t run very hot with extended sessions. Shoebox sized means fewer worries about rack space.

Cold: Busier recordings can lack some finer resolution. Some may find them to be lean in the mid and upper bands.

Encore: Capable amps that should be an easy fit into many systems, although some listeners may prefer a tubed digital source at the front end when these are in the chain. If standmount speakers and a small-ish room are part of the chain, these will entertain their owner for lengthy periods. They more captivating than their predecessors from two decades ago.

Specs: 250 watts x 8 ohms / Inputs: 1 XLR and 1 RCA each / Input impedance: 20kΩ balanced, 16kΩ unbalanced / High current / No power switch (auto detection of signal, intensity can be set with sensitivity switch) / Aluminium panel construction / 1 speaker terminal each / Dimensions: 216 x 150 x 379mm, 9kg / Finish options: Black, silver
