DVDO’s Air-borne transmission

June 21, 2012 Written by Editor

We may not be home theatre buffs here, but who can fail to be excited by the thought of wire-free video transmission, in high-definition and 3D, and with surround audio to boot! DVDO, known for its domestic video processors, now offers the Air wireless HDMI connection system for wire-free transmission of 1080p video and 3D images, along with 7.1 channel lossless surround sound to a HDTV/display. Awesome or what!

It can hook up any source with a HDMI output (your Blu-ray player, set-top box or satellite decoder, notebook, etc) to the HDMI port on the display, seamlessly and free of pesky wires.

The DVDO Air system, which runs at 60GHz, comprises a transmitter (fitted at the source) and receiver (hooked up to the display using the supplied bracket). Set-up is simple – power off your system, replace HDMI cable with DVDO Air, power up and look, ma, sound and pictures sans messy cables!

The Air operates in a band of frequencies well above those used by other wireless home or office devices and thus performs without any interference from other wire-free systems or phone networks. It has a range of 30m, pretty useful.

Shipping is slated for July, at a retail price of UK£350 (including VAT). We really, really want one …
