THERE is no dearth of home theatre speaker systems in the world, so how does a company stand apart in this crowded field? If you’re Klipsch, you rely on your pedigree, in this case, the famed horn-loaded technology. Klipsch’s new compact HD Theater 600 5.1 system showcases how effective it is even for AV applications.
The system comprises four satellites units, a centre-channel speaker and a beefy subwoofer, and promises to enhance your viewing pleasure with “crisp dialogue, brilliant music and explosive effects.”
Each speaker uses Klipsch MicroTractrix horns, with an aluminum dome tweeter, for higher output, while updated long-throw IMG woofers provide expanded midbass bandwidth. The result is a more expansive spread of sound. The speakers can be aligned vertically or horizontally – wall brackets are provided, and floor-stand mounting is an option.
Output from the reflex-design subwoofer is via an eight-inch, down-firing driver that is enclosed in a solid MDF cabinet. The onboard amp dishes out a powerful 100 watts that drives the woofer down to 33Hz.
The system is finished in high-gloss back, with the sub wrapped in black vinyl. Just perfect to scare the neighbours with, we think…
