Magico adds S3 floorstander to range

November 5, 2013 Written by Editor

CHALK up one more potential hit for premium US loudspeaker manufacturer Magico – the company has just announced the S3, the third in its “S” range after the S1 and S5 models.

This elegant full-range three-way tower, which sits between the entry-level S1 and higher-priced S5, uses an acoustic suspension enclosure, which has been refined to include a newly-designed sub-enclosure for the midrange driver. This polycarbonate enclosure combines advanced materials and a specially developed shape to create the ideal acoustic properties for a sub-enclosure within a speaker cabinet.

As with other Magico models, the cabinet is made of contoured extruded aluminum to minimise diffraction effects, internal resonance and damping requirements. The S3 sports the same cutting-edge MB30 beryllium tweeter and MB390 mid-woofer seen on the S5, along with two newly-developed eight-inch woofers.

“By drawing from our technological well and in-house manufacturing capabilities, we are now able to deliver a remarkable value proposition in the S3, one which will become a new benchmark in its category,” Magico CEO and chief designer Alon Wolf said in a statement.

The spec sheet quotes a frequency response of 26Hz to 50kHz, sensitivity of 88dB and impedance of eight ohms, with power requirement of 50-500 watts.

Measuring 1,220 x 350 x 300mm (h/d/w) and weighing a substantial 68kg per unit, the S3 is available in more than a dozen finishes.

Delivery of the S3 will coincide with the Yuletide season next month, and if your idea of a Christmas present is in the region of US$22,600, that’s how much a pair of these speakers will cost.
