Tonearm cable of the gods… Nordost Odin 2 +

IF hi-fi wires get you all excited, here’s a celestial (in price, at least) new one from Nordost – the Odin 2 Tonearm Cable +, the flagship in the category of offerings from the company’s Supreme Reference range.

“The tonearm cable is the most critical and sensitive cable in any vinyl-sourced system. This is especially true in revealing reference systems. The delicate signals carried from the phono cartridge to the phono stage demand that every aspect of the cable’s design, material, and construction be entirely optimised for its application.

“The Odin 2 Tonearm Cable + is perfectly designed to facilitate the precise and, most importantly, noiseless transfer of the most delicate signals in any vinyl-sourced system,” says the Nordost press release.

The Odin 2 Tonearm Cable + consists of four, silver-plated, solid core 99.999999% OFC conductors, wrapped in a patented Dual Mono-Filament suspension.

“This innovative and proprietary design element dramatically increases signal speed and reduces insulation contact by 85%. The conductors are then individually shielded using Nordost’s unique Total Signal Control (TSC) technology, allowing for 100% coverage and protection from external pollution (such as RFI and EFI) and crosstalk.”

Noise is eliminated via Nordost’s two-pronged approach to grounding.

“Firstly, the cable runs a fully isolated bond ground throughout the cable. When needed, this bond ground connects the chassis of the turntable and phono-stage, creating a secure, low noise connection between the two components.

“The second method is a versatile solution, ensuring that the cable will be able to address any grounding need, regardless of the unique construction of the components in the sound system. Each Odin 2 Tonearm Cable + will include two, detachable, silver-plated ground whips, complete with Dual Mono-Filament technology and TSC shielding. When needed, these ground whips connect to the shielding of the tonearm cable, totally eliminating any noise that could be introduced during signal transfer.”

The Odin 2 Tonearm Cable + is measured to precise mechanically-tuned lengths to reduce internal microphony and high-frequency impedance resonances. The cable is then terminated with Nordost’s proprietary HOLO:PLUG Straight or 90o low-mass 5-pin Din, RCA, or XLR connectors, which have been specifically designed to accommodate the cable’s unique design.

Now available internationally, the Odin 2 Tonearm Cable + retails for US$12,999.99 (1.25m) and US$15,999.99 (2m). Additional meter length increments after that are US$4,000.
