Ultimate damping in new Furutech XLR plugs

FOR audiophiles who fret over every little component of their hi-fi system, here’s something from Furutech to keep you keen – a new, top-of-the-line XLR connector featuring the Japanese company’s proprietary “anti-static anti-resonance material, Nano Crystal² Formula (NCF).”

“The new CF-601M NCF and CF-602F NCF balanced signal connectors feature bodies formed with NCF Liquid Crystal Polymer Resin. The resin incorporates nylon, fibreglass, nano-sized crystalline piezo ceramic particles, carbon powder and Furutech’s Nano Crystal² Formula (NCF),” according to Furutech.

NCF already features in selected high-performance Furutech products, and uses a special crystalline material that has two “active” properties.

“First, it generates negative ions that eliminate static. Second, it converts thermal energy into far infrared. To this, Furutech adds nano-sized ceramic particles and carbon powder for their additional ‘piezoelectric effect’ damping properties. The resulting Nano Crystal² Formula, found only in Furutech products, is the ultimate damping material,” Furutech tells us.

Eliminating electrical and mechanical resonance from signal and power transmission in high performance audio and video applications results a dramatic reduction in noise, improved imaging and sound staging while enabling enhanced frequency extension and tonal balance.

Both designs feature rhodium-plated, Alpha-treated pure copper, one-piece construction conductors. In the CF-601M, NCF is also injected into the conductor pins.

The connectors’ housing is a multi-layered design, in which a hybrid of NCF and 3K silver carbon fibre is layered onto a nonmagnetic stainless steel shell. A specially engineered set-screw construction ensures firm contact between the connector and conductor.

Additionally, the CF-602F has a chrome-plated, brass stamped inner housing. It also features NCF material damping clips, and a special resonance damping composite release button formed with stainless steel powder and vibration resistant metal powder.

Both of these high-end XLR connectors are specified for cable with a maximum diameter of 10mm.

The specifications for each connector are:
CF-601M NCF

  • Accommodates 14AWG stranded wire / 12AWG solid core wire. Wire diameter 2.1mm max.
  • Dimensions: ø18.6mm X 64.6mm overall length approx.
  • Net weight: 46.9g approx.

CF-602F NCF

  • Accommodates: 13AWG stranded wire / 12AWG solid core wire. Wire diameter 2.4mm max.
  • Dimensions: ø18.6mm X 70.85mm overall length approx.
  • Net weight: 58.2g approx.

Both the CF-601M NCF and CF-602F NCF XLR connectors are available now, priced as follows (inc VAT):
CF-601M NCF £128 each
CF-602F NCF £144 each
