LOCK engineers and designers together in the same room, tell them to break the walls, and chances are they’ll deliver something like Monitor Audio’s new form-and-spelling-defying flagship Hyphn speaker. It’s like no other speaker from any company that’s not named B&O.
Setting out to make the “best loudspeaker anyone has heard or created”, the Monitor Audio team approach the task with an aim of setting a balance between design and technology to deliver “unrivalled” performance.

“Featuring the new M-Array high- and mid-frequency driver array and four force-cancelled eight-bass drivers per speaker, Hyphn is capable of delivering an unrivalled listening experience,” the company boasts.
“Hyphn features the third generation, Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD III) high frequency transducer at the centre of the M-Array. A breakthrough in high- and mid-frequency transducer technology, it provides an acoustic and physical link to the twin bass cabinets that sit either side of it.”
The single MPD III transducer is surrounded by six RDT III dedicated midrange drivers optimised to ensure a completely smooth transition with the tweeter.

The transducers are claimed to have much reduced distortion and flatter frequency response than before, resulting in wider, cleaner and more consistent and lifelike sound.
“Carefully engineered crossovers ensure the most exact and controlled sound performance across full frequency spectrum.”

The full-range, bass-reflex, three-way Hyphn (18Hz to 60kHz) has a sensitivity of 86dB, nominal impedance of four ohms and demanding amplification requirements of 200 watts (into four ohms) and above).
Each unit measures 1392 x 502 x 520 mm (h/w/d) and weighs 106.9kg with its plinth.
Hyphn is available in three finishes – Matte Black, Matte Heritage Green and Pure Satin White.
Cleaver distillation and implementation of some of the best technology available today, but cripplingly inefficient and demanding of amplification, which will rob the flow of the music.
ha ha, that’s a good one. They would need to be a lot less efficient to be crippling. This level is quite common. I am looking forward to a full listening review. :O)
This is the ugliest speaker I have ever seen.
Thanks for demonstrating once again that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Manoja,
Have you actually even heard them to make that comment? probably not, yeah I agree they’re pretty ugly looking but you have to hear them to make a comment like that I have the platinum 200 G2 and they sound phenomenal. The platinum series is definitely world-class so I have no doubt with the driver technology that monitor audio uses that these will sound really good.
Agree. His comment is just silly.
Hyphn, more like Clothes-pin.
From a design standpoint they are outstanding. These are from Monitor Audio, and demonstrate a truly forward looking cutting edge approach to speaker design. Not another overpriced BOX. Hallelujah!
