Magico’s S-SUB gets a makeover

July 14, 2023 Leave a Comment Written by The Editor

MAGICO has announced the latest iteration of its S-SUB subwoofer, some eight years after the original model came out, and again, it follows the form factor of the recently updated S Series loudspeakers.

“The new S-SUB was born from concepts taken from the groundbreaking Titan-15 subwoofer. The research and development that led to the flagship Titan-15 allowed the Magico engineering team to improve upon virtually every aspect of the original S-SUB,” according to the company.

First up is the new 13-inch driver; a pair is employed on the S-SUB.

“The driver features a two-layer, 75mm voice coil with 0.6 inch of linear travel in each direction for powerful, low-distortion bass reproduction. Each driver sports a power rating of 550W RMS, continuous, and even more under peak conditions,” Magico adds.

The super-stiff aluminium cone is a perfect balance between stiffness and weight, the whole driver system optimised for delivering maximum SPL while minimising music-related distortions in the low frequencies.

“The enclosure was designed and evaluated both with computer simulation and physical testing to meet Magico’s no-compromise requirements for both rigidity and stability, along with a vanishing acoustical contribution.”

6061-T6-grade aluminium is used, along innovative bracing techniques and advanced damping materials for an “utterly silent subwoofer enclosure.”

The display panel on the rear is a new feature

On board is a powerful class-D amplifier capable of 3,200W. State-of-the-art DSP software provides the user with ample set-up flexibility. There’s a new rear-panel display, enabling calibration of the S-SUB to the specific room it is used in and with the speaker system it is paired with. Three stored equalisation presets are offered.

Finish options are Softouch (US$18,650 per unit, five colour choices) and Gloss (US$22,000, six colours).

The new S-SUB is expected to be available in the last quarter of this year.
