Ruark Audio’s R810 is a 21st century radiogram

THE radiogram is alive, albeit highly evolved to suit 21st century requirements. UK’s Ruark Audio is certainly keeping more than the memory alive with its latest lifestyle system, the flagship R810.

If the term radiogram is alien to you, just take a look at the R810, which comes in handcrafted grille and veneered cabinets made from sustainable woods, and a matching stand. Streamlined for today.

“Combined with the precision formed trims and polished chrome stand, R810 radiates sophistication and like the finest furniture, it is an object that you will cherish and be proud to have on display in your home,” Ruark assures us.

Underneath the hood, however, the R810 is equipped with all you’ll need for blissful home entertainment. A powerful Class A-B amplifier with the latest sound processing technology drives five separate channels for “a stunning soundstage that will immerse you and fill your home with exquisite sound”.

“The R810’s enclosure has been carefully divided into compartments, each optimised for its intended task. Twin bass reflex compartments house our NS+ bass-midrange units and silk dome tweeters, and the long throw subwoofer is housed beneath, in an infinite baffle enclosure for superbly controlled and extended bass.”

What would all this be without the right sort of connectivity, eh? Fear not, this modern radiogram is no shirker and comes with all the streaming facilities you could want. But if you want to stay with nostalgia, the R810 also offers inputs for external sources.

“Streaming is its forte, but if you want to play records and CDs, these mediums can also be enjoyed by connecting a turntable to the phono inputs or a CD-ROM drive to the USB-C socket. Additionally with its HDMI ARC/eARC input, you can connect the R810 to most modern TVs.”

Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect are present, with Apple AirPlay and Chromecast built-in, so you can stream and control directly from apps such as Apple Music, BBC Sounds, Amazon Music, Qobuz, Deezer and many more. You can also build a flexible multi-room system, linking the R810 with other AirPlay and Chromecast compatible devices.

The R810 provides high-resolution music file support up to 32-bit/384kHz, while Internet/DAB/DAB+ and FM aren’t left out.

The R810 also has an improved version of its RotoDial control system, first seen more than 15 years ago.

“With touch-screens seemingly controlling everything these days, in our opinion you still can’t beat the positive click of a button or satisfying turn of a dial, particularly when it comes packaged as something unique and beautiful like our RotoDial control system, which for 100 Series has been improved and enhanced. Also included with R810 is a matching rechargeable remote – Bluetooth connectivity means that aiming is not required during operation.”

If the R810 is just what you need, check it out at your nearest Ruark dealer.
