WHY WE’RE HERE …
PUTTING aside the metaphysical connotations of the headline to this preamble, let us cut to the chase – audioFI.net, a webzine for all things audiophile, two-channel and beyond, is the continuation of my lengthy journey of aural exploration as a hi-fi hack and music reviewer.
This is a journey with its roots in the late 1980s, when an aspiring reviewer of hi-fi equipment and music started a column for The Star, Malaysia’s leading English-language daily and online news portal. It was a venture that expanded from its initial allocated space and grew from strength to strength in the next decades, garnering a dedicated following among the newspaper’s readers.
However, in the time-honoured tradition that all things must and will change, the column ended its 22-year run in early 2012, at a time when I felt my passion for hi-fi needed new vistas of expression. I needed a new platform that would satisfy my restlessly creative urges and drive me to another level. Oh, all right, I needed my own thing so I could be in total control! Thus was born audioFI.net.
The mission? Well, we – a bunch of my good friends who are as ardent in their quest for new aural experiences – aim to get our hands on the newest gear available in our market and share our findings with readers. So, whether you’re a newbie looking to set up your first system or an experienced audiophile looking for help, we hope you will find it here along the way. Yes, we are also going to tell you about the newest products in the hi-fi market, and are allowing you space in the Rants N Raves section, so feel free.
We’re not hugely technical boffins – we know what makes things tick, but let’s be honest, pristine measurements are no guarantee of musical enjoyment. We do, however, have Q&As with manufacturers and designers for unique insights into their products and technology.
Our reviews are, naturally, subjective and dependent on the kind of music we like and the environment in which our hi-fi systems function. This is the way it has been for me for more than two decades – and since it ain’t broken, I will continue in this vein. So hop on for what I hope will be a thrilling ride into an exciting future.

NOTES:
–Â Our ratings are based on an overall assessment of performance, features and price. They are subjective according to the opinion of the reviewer.
– Prices are given in US dollars, British pound sterling and Euro, where possible, along with the Malaysian price. These may differ in various regions due to duties, taxes, shipping and discount offers. We are not responsible for any pricing discrepancy.
– Review gear is mostly sourced from distributors/dealers in Malaysia and Singapore. A reviewer may occasionally purchase some audio equipment from an online store and submit a review.
– Our reviewers do not have any business association whatsoever with manufacturers, distributors and dealers.
The WordPress new theme you are using now is screwing up the display of what was a good site. Lots of broken image links, cleared cache no good. Site looks just as bad in Chrome and Firefox. I used this theme before never seen it look so bad.
Thanks for the feedback, Anthony. Was forced to change theme after Thesis 1.8.4 got deprecated and we started seeing broken image links.
Work in progress, getting familiarised with the new Evolve theme now and trying out layout optimisation methods. If you see something, drop me an email at wkfoong@audiofi.net.
Many thanks again,

I would like to introduce to You a new Acuhorn TT original tube amplifier.
Unusual, sophisticated experience of the sound of one huge tube.
Great work point setting at 400mA.
Without any adjustment tubes, just insert the tube into the socket and play.
It has powerful amperage sound density, not a lightweight volt-control speaker.
It’s about the beauty of music.
Power supply with ultra state of the art modules by Vicorpower.
The idea origins are the purest and most intact audio path.
The amplifier contains only three parts per signal path:
grid input transformer, then big SE tube and output transformer at the end.
Just one serviceable element, the 6C33C triode, to be exchanged.
You can use this amplifier one unit as stereo, or two units in mono mode as a pair of monoblocks.
I highly recommend.

I would like to know from SUJESH PAVITHRAN if he still feels the Frank Acoustics 15000 is the better option over the 25000.
I would like to buy one… but can’t decide if I would get better benefits by wiring to my electric box as opposed to a stand alone unit.

I have read many reviews, both local and international. I have to give credit where it is due. Great job guys!! I can see that you choose your words carefully and the reviews are clear and simple. The word craft is fantastic and definitely right up there with the likes of What HiFi and Gramophone.
What is truly fantastic is….this is “Made in Malaysia”!!! It is products like this that makes that label proud.
Hello,
I want to thank you for your great service. I enjoy reading your reviews as they are fun and informative and I always look forward to visiting your website.
