Rating: ★★★★★

Hot: Open and spacious sound stage, with great ambient detail. Very revealing once set up properly. They don’t fall apart with complex recordings, very decent with piano works, especially. Great and deep-ish bass, with vice-like grip on the lows. Majesty of scale in the overall presentation. Near-holographic treble and life-like sonic pictures. Smooth tonal balance. No speed slackers, weighty and with commanding sonic delivery

Cold: Less than optimum positioning (little or no toe-in) and you won’t get results – you will hear some congestion.

Encore: British stalwart shows it can do little wrong with cabinets or drivers. These are impressive boxes, combining finesse and subtlety with authority. They’ll keep you listening to your music collection over and over again. Their footprint size is modest, and they’re not finicky about distance from walls. If you’re looking for a long-term relationship with a pair of loudspeakers, the search could well stop here!

Specs: 2-way transmission line design, transmission length of 3m, with PMC/SEAS 27mm Solonex soft-dome tweeter and a PMC ATL 170mm doped woofer, crossing over at 2,000Hz / 2 sets of inputs / Frequency range: 28Hz-25kHz /  Sensitivity: 90dB  / Dimensions: 1,000 x 200 x 300mm (h/w/d) / Finish: Rose Palissandre
