Rega’s big box – the RS-10

May 8, 2012 Leave a Comment Written by Editor

Now that Rega Research has inched its way into high-end electronics, it was only a matter of time before a pair of loudspeakers followed. The RS-10 is designed to partner Rega’s flagship products, but flexible enough to fit into any quality system.

Here, a Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) unit is paired with Rega’s dual driver bass system, along with a proprietary tweeter. Rega promises the RS-10 is a very musically transparent speaker, with flexibility to boot. Like electrostatics, we’re reliably informed.

The silk-dome tweeter uses Rega’s Zero Rear Reflection (ZRR) technology and is assembled in the company’s factory. It has a Faraday ring to extend response up to 23kHz by lowering coil inductance.

The two bass drivers, which are of different sizes, are hooked up in parallel, and have different resonant frequencies and individual cabinet loading. The paper cone drivers are 200mm and 125mm units.

An Environment Match Setting (EMS) allows the user to fine tune the RS-10 to suit its environment, changing the bass/treble balance. Cabinets for all seasons? We’ll keep you posted.
