Geneva Sound System Model S

June 1, 2012 Leave a Comment Written by SUJESH PAVITHRAN

Rating: ★★★★☆

Hot: Sometimes, even audiophiles want to get away from the hassle of powering up different bits and pieces in their system just to listen to music. Hassle-free, one-box systems are often hugely compromised sonically, despite the convenience … but now and then, something like the Geneva Sound System Model S comes along and demands attention. The single, compact box is designed for a wide spread of stereo sound from a small point. Certainly, the Model S sounds big, with lots of information available – plus it is as punchy as heck but never in a crude way. Bass is there, too, although not particularly deep or finely crafted. Overall, the Model S sounds tight, energetic and in control when pushed hard. No lack of entertainment here … add the quality of finish and that bigger units are available for larger spaces, and you have a winner.

Cold: Once you accept the physical limitations of the design, nothing much really, despite the occasional digital sheen on guitars.

Encore: If it is trouble-free musical pleasure you seek, and your i-Device is stocked with tracks you want to hear away from the car or cans, here’s the ideal system to plug into and enjoy. It’s an addictive piece of gear for the bedroom and living room, taking little space and making minimal siting demands. Every house should have one …

Specs: All-in-one system including motorised  iPod/iPhone dock, FM radio, speakers and amp / 2 3-inch full-range drivers in a ported design /  15 watts x 2 Class D amp / Frequency range: 75Hz-20kHz / 6 radio presents / Clock with alarm / Touch sensitive controls / Stereo mini line-in socket / Remote control / Table stand provided / Dimensions: 235 x 156 x 176mm, 3.35kg / Finish options: White, black, red, silver
