KLIAV Show issues its first commemorative CD

June 25, 2012 Written by Editor

IT has taken all of 19 years, but next month, it will finally happen – the KL International AV Show 2012 is issuing a Limited Edition Commemorative CD to be given away as a door gift to paying visitors.

“The Commemorative CD is a long time coming. It is not that a special CD hasn’t been on our minds but the sheer logistics involved in actually acquiring one has, quite honestly, put us off, year after year,” says show organiser Dick Tan.

According to Tan, this would have remained unchanged had it not been for Joseph Ki – architect, music lover and local audiophile legend. Known to friends affectionately as Jo Ki, he is also the founder of the homegrown LS3/5A club where proponents and lovers of the famous small speaker hold court.

Jo Ki took on all issues that had plagued previous attempts to produce such a CD, including chasing difficult copyright issues, painstakingly assessing and writing each track’s audio synopsis and following through with the actual production of the CD.

“Despite the ‘load’ on our shoulders, we agreed that if we were going to be giving away a CD, we would have to make it the best possible,” adds Tan.

Material for the Commemorative CD was sourced from the highest possible resolution master before being down-sampled to 16-bit/44.1kHz Redbook CD standard.

The tracks, says Tan, were carefully selected for their astute musical content and high standard of recording, and thus make excellent material for testing and gauging audio systems.

All the money in the world won’t buy you this CD – well, that’s not wholly true because the RM10 entrance fee (it has not been raised since 1994) to the show will get you a copy of this disc. But that’s it, the CD won’t be on sale anywhere – so ensure your paying presence.

The show, which is in its 19th year, will be held at the JW Marriott hotel in KL on July 20-22, 2012. This is the 12th consecutive year that the show, which serves to showcase new AV technologies, is being held at the venue.
