Mordaunt-Short Mezzo 2

June 2, 2012 Leave a Comment Written by SUJESH PAVITHRAN

Rating: ★★★★★

Hot: One will immediately appreciate the top-notch build quality and good looks – the wife-acceptance factor is high. These are very resolving speakers, able to bring out loads of details from the recording, even at low level listening. Can also deliver transients with impressive speed and impact. They don’t get frazzled when fed complex music. Imaging and sound staging are also top-notch, and they carry off the “disappearing speaker” trick with ease.

Cold: Could do with more extension in the bottom end, but that’s what the bigger speakers in the range are for. Teardrop-shaped cabinet makes placing on stands a bit tricky.

Encore: At the asking price, it’s hard to find fault with this pair. A well thought-out design and a crowd pleaser.

Specs: 2-way speaker with 2.5cm tweeter and 16.5cm mid/bass driver, tweeter housed in isolated section / Magnetically shielded / Sensitivity: 89dB / Frequency response: 48Hz-22kHz / Bi-wirable / Dimensions: 352 x 220 x 280mm(h/w/d), 5kg. Finish options: Black, Dark Walnut.
