NuForce MMP head amp – pumping up the clarity

June 14, 2013 Written by Editor

IF music on the go is your thing, the Mobile Music Pump (MMP) from NuForce should keep your ears keen. This is a portable headphone amplifier that promises to deliver superior sound quality from the music files on your mobile device.

Simply connect the MMP to the headphone output of your device and plug your earbuds into the MMP – music enthusiasts will appreciate the enhanced dynamics and bass now emerging from their cans.

NuForce works on the basis that most on-the-go users use over-ear or in-ear cans that have different needs but the mobile devices’ headphone output is simply not optimised for any specific model. According to the company, most “over-ear types exhibit sensitivities of about 100dB/mW, whereas in-ear devices can be 10dB higher or more, eg., 110dB/mW.

“Assuming a 10dB difference, the lower sensitivity over-ear headphones require 10 times more power to achieve the same volume as the in-ear type. If you’re using over-ear headphones, you’ll really appreciate the MMP power capability. Your headphones will sound distinctly clearer and more natural.”

The MMP has a single 3.5mm analogue input and two such outputs (His/Her enthusiasts will be pleased), adjustable gain button (3x or 5x) and a micro-USB port to charge it. A wide range of portable audio devices like MP3 players, smartphones and iDevices are compatible with it.

For the retail price of US$59, we think you shouldn’t leave home without one … especially given its sheer 22g lightness.
