Rega RP8 among “18 best designs”

November 24, 2013 Written by Editor

THE Rega RP8 turntable has been named by hotshot designers Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson as among their “18 best designs of all time”, and obviously, the folks at Rega Research are pretty chuffed.

In case you’ve been sleeping under a rock the past decade, Ive is Apple Inc’s senior vice-president of design and the man behind the look of the iPod, iPhone, iPad, MacBook, iMac and iOS7, among others. The late Steve Jobs referred to Ive as his “spiritual partner at Apple”.

Australian Newson, meanwhile, was more recently in the news for his radical rethink of a camera in the Pentax K-01… this apart, his achievements are numerous, in the fields of transportation and consumer goods design.

The RP8’s “skeletal” design created a massive buzz when it was launched recently. It was a radical departure from Rega’s traditional look and possibly one of the finest vinyl players to have come out of Essex.

A statement from Rega said: “We are incredibly pleased to announce that our RP8 turntable has been selected by Apple’s Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson to feature in  their list of ’18 of the best designs of all time’.

“To have one of our products recognised by such respected designers is a great honour. Our inclusion alongside so many other wonderful designs is extremely flattering.”

You can check out the other designs here. And alright, no more Rega news for a bit.
