TURNING your nose up at all-in-one systems has a downside – you risk missing some fine audio work by Geneva Sound Systems, a company whose compact “boxes” have found a comfortable niche. The latest in the Geneva line is the Model M Wireless which, apart from Bluetooth streaming, DAB/FM and an alarm clock, includes onboard a pair each of one-inch tweeters and four-inch woofers driven separately by four onboard Class A/B amplifiers.
The M Wireless is an update on the previous ‘Product of the Year’ Model M, the new features being DAB radio and Bluetooth. The latter uses A2DP to stream from your digital music collection on smartphones, tablets and computers.
According to Geneva, the M Wireless is “optimised by faster processing and superior circuit design”, enabling it to “exploit the superior audio potential of DAB and Bluetooth A2DP streaming to generate an enriched listening experience from digital music collections and online sources through suitably equipped smartphones, tablets and PCs.”
A total of 60 watts drive the onboard speakers, allowing the Model M Wireless to go reasonably loud and hit the lows at 50Hz. One-touch control is provided via the supplied remote handset or on the cabinet. A mini-jack input allows connectivity with external audio sources.
The cabinet, which is made of wood, is divided into two separate chambers and available in four finish options – piano gloss red/white/black and premium walnut.
While the Model M Wireless can be placed on a desk or shelf, an optional floor stand, painted in aluminium finish, is also available.
Shipping starts in December, with a retail price of £499 – the walnut finish is £549, add £189 for the floor stand.
