Magico S-SUB – dual-punch subwoofer

June 7, 2015 Written by Editor

HONESTLY, if you already own Magico speakers, there’s absolutely no reason now for you to look elsewhere to enhance your system’s lower reaches – the S-SUB from the S-Series line, supplementing the earlier and costlier Q-Sub range, will be available from August.

The vertical enclosure of the S-SUB has curved aluminium side panels machined in-house from half-inch thick extrusions. Careful internal bracing minimises resonance and eliminates any warping of the cabinet from massive sound pressure peaks.

Driving the S-SUB are dual 12-inch Magico woofers, mounted in front in a vertical array; each uses powerful magnet assemblies and stiff aluminium cones that go deep and fast – the claimed frequency response is 15Hz to 150Hz. Undistorted SPL levels of up to 120dB ensure pure visceral thrills.

Powering the S-SUB is brute of a digital amp that delivers 2,500 watts via its 3,000VA power supply and fully regular output stage. A digitally-controlled active crossover ensures seamless integration with the main speakers or a multichannel AV system.

The S-SUB’s compact footprint makes siting along the wall a breeze – each cabinet measures 812.8 x 381 x 487.7mm (h/d/w), although the 113kg weight will require some muscle.

The Magico S-SUB will retail at US$15,000 per unit… small price for the bass equivalent of Mjölnir.
