Emotiva XPA Gen3… making obsolescence obsolete

March 29, 2016 Written by The Editor

EMOTIVA has a solution to one of the greatest conundrums faced by the audiophile – to get a stereo or a multi-channel amplifier for the living room. With the Emotiva XPA Gen3 modular amplification system, you can have anywhere from two-to-seven channels of high-quality amplification, all built into a single chassis.

As Emotiva says in its press release; “If your needs change in the future, you can easily have more channels added.

“Why should you have to buy another amplifier when you’re perfectly happy with your current one but need a few more channels?”

The XPA Gen3 amplifier modules are fed by a robust, high-current switch mode power supply capable of delivering over 3Kw of continuous power, taking the place of a conventional transformer. If you’re concerned that this may not suffice, don’t be – the amplifier is capable of delivering up to 300 watts RMS of power into each channel (into eight ohms, up to 800W RMS into two ohms).

“XPA Series amplifiers are always rated with all channels driven continuously into eight ohms. XPA Gen3 amplifiers will deliver the full power and majesty of today’s high definition movie and music sources without a hint of strain, loss of detail, or control,” the company claims.

The XPA Gen3 features a heavy steel chassis and milled aluminium faceplate – for both strength and rugged good looks. The chassis measures 203 x 431 x 492 mm (h/w/d), and the weight ranges from 16.1kg for the two-channel version, and up to 24kg for the seven-channel version.

Ancillaries are also top-notch, with gold-plated speaker binding posts and a choice of balanced or unbalanced inputs for connection to the source.

Prices for the two-channel XPA G3 start at US$899, and goes up to US$1,899 for the seven-channel version.
