And now… the 2016 Rega Planar 2

May 4, 2016 Written by The Editor

REGA isn’t forgetting that it’s other “classic” turntable has a legion of fans as well – after the recent release of the 2016 Planar 3 comes the new Planar 2, which was developed alongside its costlier sibling over the past two years.

New things on board the Planar 2 include the RB220 tonearm, 24V low-noise motor, acrylic laminated plinth and central bearing.

The RB220 has ultra low friction, Rega-designed, bespoke, zero-play ball bearings, “housed within a brand new, stiffer and lightweight bearing housing which was developed with a new automatic bias setting negating the need for the user to set bias, making it almost completely plug and play apart from simple arm balancing.”

An integrated arm clip and Rega’s latest custom aluminium arm tube are part of the design.

There’s a new 11mm self-securing brass hub bearing for improved fit and less stress, while the high-gloss plinth, in options of black or white, is stiffer and better looking.

The motor uses a new PCB, and has a new cover for integrated cooling, while the 10mm “Optiwhite” glass platter boasts improved accuracy.

The feet have also been redesigned for better stability and less vibration transfer.

The Planar 2 is provided with the Carbon MM cartridge as standard… so all ready to plug and play right out of the box, once you balance the arm. The turntable is already shipping.
