WE end the year with a massive floor-pounding system from YG Acoustics, touted as the world’s first “hyper-high-end sub-bass speaker”. It’s called, appropriately, InVincible, and its brief is to “address low-end issues faced by owners of the finest high-end speakers”.
According to YG, the InVincible features “the largest BilletCore driver ever made – a 21-inch (53cm) unit.” The cone is machined from a 30kg slab of aircraft-grade aluminium and weighs 411g, finished. The basket is also CNC-machined in-house and precisely assembled from 238 parts using lab-grade alignment and tolerances.
“The dedicated built-in amplifier boasts up to 6,000 watts of RMS power for unrestricted dynamics. In a world filled with offshore-outsourced electronics, this amplifier stands out by incorporating a real high-end, custom, US-made class D module,” YG adds.
Furthermore, the cabinet is “precisely CNC-machined from solid aluminium billet. Like the flagship Sonja XV and Sonja 2 series, its construction is a ‘box within a box’ to minimise vibration. A sealed alignment eliminates port-issues and the time-delays associated therewith.
“The built-in DSP crossover offers extensive options for matching with most high-end speakers. Furthermore, when mating InVincible with a YG Acoustics speaker, the guesswork is entirely eliminated. InVincible is pre-programmed for precise matching with any current YG Acoustics speaker and many legacy models, using a foolproof process inspired by the famous DualCoherent technology.”
Three versions of the fully modular InVincible are available – the 21.1, an ultra-high-end single-driver subwoofer; 21.1i, a down-firing configuration of the first model to protect the driver in busy high-traffic households, or to allow for placement of a centre-speaker on the flat top; and 21.2, which is the flagship and features a large, ultra-high-end dual-driver subwoofer. You can either upsize or downsize as per your requirements.
The system is fully compatible with both stereo and multi-channel audio and home theatre systems.
The 21.1 and 21.1i retail for US$55,000 per unit, while the 21.2 is US$100,000.
