McIntosh adds RS200 wireless speakers to lifestyle range

February 15, 2019 Leave a Comment Written by The Editor

THERE’S little doubt that if a hi-fi manufacturer wants to leave a bigger imprint in domestic audio realms, the trick is to cover all bases. McIntosh Labs has been doing exactly this over recent years, adding lifestyle and desktop products to its considerably heavyweight stables of separate components.

The latest in line is the RS200 wireless loudspeaker system, a streamer for contemporary times and packing everything you’ll need for audio convenience; yes, you can even hook up your TV to it.

The speaker systems delivers a total of 650 watts via its eight drivers, comprising two 4×6-inch woofers, four two-inch midrange units and two three-quarter inch tweeters. A powered external subwoofer can be added, if you want more bass. There’s a three-position equalisation switch to optimise sonic performance based on its location in the room – and the RS200 can be placed just about anywhere.

Several streaming options (wireless or otherwise) are offered – Apple AirPlay 2; Bluetooth 5.0 with support for AAC, Qualcomm aptX™ HD for hi-res playback and Qualcomm aptX Low Latency for improved audio transmission speed to deliver sound in sync with visual media; DTS Play-Fi whole-home wireless audio; and DNLA support.

There also is an audio-only HDMI1 input to connect to TVs that have Audio Return Channel (ARC) capabilities; an optical input to connect TVs without ARC, or digital sources such as CD Players; a USB Type-B input to play music from your Macintosh or Windows computer; and a 3.5mm auxiliary input for connecting various analogue music sources.

Shipping begins this month, so you can place your order now.
