JBL L100, L82 Classic speakers now in Malaysia

August 30, 2020 Leave a Comment Written by El Hefe

THE JBL L100 Classic model was officially launched for the Malaysian market by AV Designs Sdn Bhd on Friday (Aug 26), along with its baby brother, the L82 Classic, and the 4312G and 4312MII from JBL’s Studio Monitors series.

The event was done on a small scale, in accordance with the current RMCO SOP but that did not stop the organiser from showcasing what the musical enjoyment the L100 Classic can provide to listeners.

The event started off with a short briefing by AV Designs’ Tony Low, who gave guests the lowdown on the revamped design of the original L100.

The original L100 came out in 1970, and was designed mainly to suit rock music fans, given that it was the Woodstock era. The new L100 Classic retains the vintage styling, including the retro-inspired design Quadrex foam grille (with enhanced material to prolong its integrity).

This speaker boasts a one-inch titanium dome tweeter, five-inch pure-pulp cone midrange driver, a slamming 12-inch cast-frame, white pure-pulp cone woofer and a single front-firing port tube. The L100 Classic retains the high and mid frequency L-pad attenuators on the front baffle.

Give it modern trappings, the L100 Classic is expected to be more neutral tonally and able to deliver music enjoyment in a wider range of musical genres.

JBL also has matching tilted stands for the L100 Classic, measured precisely at an angle for optimum musical presentation to the listener.

Only the L100 was on active display, driven by a Bryston BDP3 streamer and TAD amplification. Guests had the opportunity to listen to these speakers with a series of music clips and also test tones. From first impressions, the L100 Classic will be a strong contender for those seeking a modern sound but with vintage looks.

According to Low, the outlet currently has only a pair each of all models but more units will be arriving soon.

The L100 Classic retails at RM 19,800 while the L82 Classic is RM 11,200, excluding the matching stands.

For those interested, these JBL speakers are available for demo at the AV Designs (+603-62411237) showroom.
