Ruark’s special R5 coming in June

April 19, 2021 Leave a Comment Written by The Editor

RENOWNED UK speaker manufacturer Ruark Audio is adding to its range of smart lifestyle speakers with a special offering – the R5 Signature Edition, to be made in limited quantities and available in black piano lacquer finish with rose gold trim.

“Creating a true piano finish is a painstaking task that involves building the finish in multiple layers with hand sanding between coats. Once the final coat is applied, the lacquer is wet sanded with a very fine grit abrasive and then hand buffed and polished to a glass-like finish. Conventional methods of finishing do not compare with the lustre level that this process provides, and neither are they as long lasting nor hard wearing,” Ruark says of this special finish.

The multiple layers of lacquer also add rigidity to the enclosure, resulting in extra clarity and enhanced sonic performance.

“The standard R5 produces an impressive stereo soundstage that extends way beyond its compact dimensions and it is a feature that customers love. This was achieved through our proprietary algorithm and digital filtering, but with further tuning, the function has been enhanced for R5 Signature, creating a cleaner soundstage with greater depth and realism. The end result is our STEREO+ feature.”

The R5 Signature Edition uses the same high-fidelity 90-watt Class A-B amplifier system, proprietary neodymium NS+ drivers and long-throw woofer as the standard version, but “with revised routing of key signal paths and the use of high purity oxygen-free speaker cables for extra sound clarity.”

Features include comprehensive Wi-Fi streaming with Spotify and support for Tidal, Deezer and Amazon Music, a multi-format CD player, AptX HD Bluetooth receiver for 24-bit high-resolution streaming, DAB/FM and Internet radio tuners, USB playback/charge port, auxiliary digital and analogue inputs including RIAA turntable input, high-contrast OLED display with large clock format and an Ethernet port.

The R5 Signature Edition, retailing £1,250, will be available from June 2021.
