ALL-IN-ONE hi-fi components are the future, if not for purist audiophiles, at least for the music lover who wants a versatile and better sounding system than what the mass market offers. Thus, many hi-fi names are clambering on the “just add speakers” bandwagon, offering lifestyle-type components that sport a signature sound.
In line with this, Technics has introduced the SA-C600 Network CD receiver to its Premium Series. It is a streaming amp, DAC and CD player, all rolled into a stylish box. Wireless is offered, and vinyl lovers have an MM stage on board for analogue pleasures. These apart, there are a number of optical/coaxial digital and USB inputs.
The SA-C600 features Technics’ renowned JENO engine and digital audio technology, with the transmission system processing audio signals fully digitally in all stages from input to output.
“Compared to analogue transmission, this system is less susceptible to signal degradation caused by external noise, ensuring more precise signal transmission. Accurate signal processing not only delivers high-resolution digital audio but also maintains the soft texture inherent in analogue recordings,” Technics assures us.
The power supply is another area that Technics has taken into consideration.
“The design of the power supply is extremely critical in audio systems containing CD players, amplifiers, digital circuits and other such components. To eliminate any adverse effects on the amplifier, the SA-C600 is equipped with a dedicated power supply for the amplifier circuits that is independent from all other circuits, supplying power to the two independent transformers. The wiring connections between the two dedicated transformers and the amplifier circuits are also optimised for noise reduction.
“The power supply for the clock circuit of the JENO Engine utilises the same noise suppression circuit employed in Technics’ flagship turntable model, the SL-1000R, in order to improve noise reduction. It achieves superb sound image localisation and transparent spatial expression.”
The phono section also has its dedicated power supply, with a supply circuit that is different from the control circuit for improved noise reduction.
“The equaliser circuit also features a shielded construction to shut out the effects of external noise and allows for signal amplification without any loss of fidelity.”
There is some level of room correction offered.
“The SA-C600 is equipped with a Space Tune function that enables the adjustment of sound to suit the environment and location of the unit so that anyone can enjoy superb music reproduction. By using the Technics Audio Centre app for tablets and smartphones or by selecting one of the four presets on the main unit – Free, Wall, Corner and Shelf – users can achieve the most suitable sound reproduction for their specific acoustic environment.”
A custom feature allows users to enter separate settings for each individual speaker, adjusting for installation under different conditions and bringing out the best sonics in any environment.
As for sources, the SA-C600 supports Bluetooth, AirPlay2, Spotify Connect, Tidal, Amazon Music, Chromecast and MQA. No lack of musical entertainment here for most users. As for muscle, the SA-C600 will deliver 60 watts of power per channel and should match most speakers in the market for which is it intended.
The SA-C600, finished in either silver or black, will be available in February.

Agree… most on-component screens displaying artwork really have little purpose other than providing some colour to the faceplate. I think you’d have to rely on the app for more useful viewing.
I just don’t see spending 1000 bucks on outdated technology. I have a lot of cds, but if I wanted to play them, I already have a good cd player. I can use the YouTube app on my phone, and find any music, or album I want to listen to. Using blue tooth, I can play the music on several devices I own. I know, there’s still this tired old argument about digital not sounding as good, which I agree with. However, the convenience of digital, is more than enough to overcome the minor sound difference.
