Monitor Audio updates Silver line

September 29, 2013 Written by Editor

MONITOR Audio has upgraded its popular, award-winning mid-range line of RX Silver speakers, now known just as the Silver range and incorporating eight new models.

Available in a choice of real wood veneers (rose nut, walnut, natural oak and black oak) and high-gloss piano finishes (black and white), the Silver line-up possesses features taken from the upmarket Gold and Platinum series and further  refined.

The range includes two stand mount models (Silver 1 and 2), three floor standers (6,8 and 10), the Centre unit, FX surround units and W12 active subwoofer.

The 1, 2, 6, Centre and FX retain the physical elements of their predecessors, while the 8 has evolved into a full three-way design.

The 10 is a completely new model featuring twin eight-inch bass drivers. The 8 and 10 also use a newly developed four-inch midrange driver, while the tweeter featured across the line is the new Silver 25mm C-CAM unit.

The improvements, which also include a slightly thicker cabinet wall, are subtle steps forward rather than radical, and aimed at reducing resonance and distortion, while improving signal integrity and transient response.

The sealed-box subwoofer has a new 500-watt DSP-controlled amp with advanced switch-mode power conversion methods and improved processing of the signal.

Higher sensitivity and impedance than the previous line also means the Silver speakers will work with a wider range of amplifiers.

Available now, there’s also been an increase in price by about 20% – the figures are Silver 1 (£500/£550 for high gloss, per pair), 2 (£650/£715), 6 (£1,000/£1,100, 8 (£1,250/£1,375, 10 (£1,500/£1,650), FX (£500/£550), Centre (£375/£413, per unit) and W-12 (£1,000/£1,100).
