Genesis launches 2.3 line-source loudspeaker

July 24, 2015 Written by Editor

IT is intimidating, built into two towers. It is a hybrid line-source design. Its bass array is driven by servo-controlled amplifiers. And if you have to ask how much it costs, move on… the price of the Genesis 2.3 is only on application.

“The Genesis 2.3 is the ultimate living room party loudspeaker,” says Genesis Advanced Technologies chief designer and CEO Gary Koh.

“It sounds as good standing up as when sitting down, and is not too loud up close or too soft much further away. You could be almost anywhere in the room or even hanging out just outside the door and enjoy the music.”

The key to the design of the line array is the creating of a “coherent wave front”, so that all frequencies of sound from the speaker reach the listener at exactly the same time. Koh believes that the line-source approach is the closest it gets to an ideal loudspeaker.

“A four-foot line-source would perform much better than a one-inch point-source delivering all the frequencies important to the reproduction of music,” Koh adds.

“The G2.3 is as close to the perfect transducer as we can make given the constraints of room size and budget.”

Unlike a point-source design, a line-source loudspeaker has no vertical dispersion of the sound-wave. The advantages? The spectral content of the waveform is consistent throughout the length of the line-source, so seating height does not matter.

Then, the attenuation of sound pressure level is -3dB with a doubling of distance, instead of a point source’s -6dB; thus, the change in loudness level is much less over small changes in distance, so the speaker can be enjoyed within a larger area.

Another plus is the lack of reflections from the floor or ceiling, which along with the dipole design, results in rock-solid images and a live-like soundstage.

The Genesis 2.3 loudspeaker system comprises a pair of ribbon midrange/tweeter “wings”, a pair of woofer towers, a pair of servo-controlled bass amplifiers, and connecting cables and accessories.

It is custom built in “any” finish, including carbon-fibre, rosewood and high-gloss black. As we told, you, POA.
