Cary Audio’s DMS-500 streamer… better than PC

January 18, 2016 Written by Editor

COMPUTER audio is all the rage these days, but let’s be honest, setting up a PC or Mac as high-performance source can sometimes be a pain. The solution – do away with the computer altogether and use a dedicated, purpose-built digital streaming machine like the Cary Audio DMS-500 here.

The DMS-500 does everything a computer-based source and external DAC can do, and more! Connectivity is not an issue as USB hard drives, thumb drives, SD Cards can be plugged directly to the unit. Its wireless and ethernet connectivity expands its utility even further, allowing access to NAS drives, and also opens up a whole world of Internet streaming services.

The DMS-500 also plays music right off your mobile device wirelessly via Bluetooth aptX lossless fi! For the slightly older-school crowd, it provides all the wired inputs and outputs you need, both balanced and unbalanced!

It will also play the highest-resolution files available, PCM up to 768kHz/24-bit and DSD 512 files. If your music files don’t quite reach these heights, fear not, the unit can convert or up-sample them up to DSD 256 or PCM 768kHz!

The DMS-500 can even be connected directly to your amplifier or active speakers, with volume control via a handheld remote or an Android app available from the Google Play store.

The DMS-500 is now shipping with a list price of US$4,995.
