Clearaudio adds Innovation Basic turntable to its line-up

August 11, 2016 Leave a Comment Written by The Editor

THERE’S a new vinyl spinner in the Clearaudio range of turntables, and it takes the entry point to the Innovation line a bit lower. This one is called the Innovation Basic, and it’s the baby of a line-up that includes the Innovation, Innovation Compact and Master Innovation.

Despite the name, the renowned German turntable manufacturer stresses that the new model is anything but “basic”… trickle-down technology from the other ‘tables ensures this.

The resonance-optimised chassis uses Clearaudio’s iconic three-point design with its “sandwich” Panzerholz (a solid, bullet-proof wood) and aluminium construction, which the company says results in a balance of transparency and natural tonality.

Exceptional speed stability is ensured via the decoupled custom-built high-torque DC motor with patented Ceramic Magnetic Bearing (CMB) and Optical Speed Control (OSC).

Furthermore, “CMB allows the dynamically balanced platter to magnetically levitate on an inverted and polished ceramic bearing shaft with polished sintered bronze insert. Meanwhile, an infrared sensor reads a microscopically-etched strobe ring and sends signals to the OSC mechanism which auto-corrects in real time, consistently maintaining the perfect speed.”

There are two tonearm mounting bases, while fine height adjustment allows for precise levelling of the turntable on any surface.

The Innovation Basic comes with a choice of finish options. The Panzerholz wood layer can be natural or black-lacquered, while the aluminium layer can be silver or black. The platter is available in either clear acrylic or black high-density POM.
