READ carefully – this special edition NW-A100TPS Walkman is NOT a cassette player. It, however, pays tribute to one of the most legendary products in the history of audio – the TPS-L2 Walkman, Sony’s first portable cassette player, released 40 years ago last July. The NW-A100TPS is a cutting-edge digital player, designed with a “special cassette tape user interface and screensaver” inspired by the classic Walkman models of yore.
The NW-A100TPS Walkman has a printed 40th anniversary logo on the rear panel and comes with a specially-designed soft case and package inspired by the TPS-L2.

Sony’s press release says: “Launched back on 1st July 1979, the TPS-L2 revolutionised the way that people listened to music on the go, giving them the freedom to enjoy their favourite music wherever they went. Not everything was better back then, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds with the heritage design of the Walkman, whilst having cutting edge technology at your fingertips.
“The A100 series Walkman also features a special cassette tape user interface and screensaver that takes inspiration from classic Walkman models.”

The NW-A100TPS, available only in black, comes with 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using a micro SD card; wireless connectivity for streaming comes by way of Bluetooth.
Only 300 units have been made available for Malaysia, and Sony is taking pre-orders from now until Dec 13, at all Sony Stores, Sony Store Online, selected Sony Centres, Jaben Malaysia and Stars Pickers. The price – a mere RM1,799.
