HERE’S a new lifestyle system for those who love all things McIntosh – the MXA80 integrated audio system, which maintains the same compact footprint of its predecessor the MXA70, and includes DSD and DXD compatibility via a new onboard DAC.
The hardware part of the MXA80 is a 50-watt stereo amp and a pair of two-way desktop speakers. There are four digital and two analogue inputs, with the USB input accepting PCM signals up to 32-bit/384kHz and supporting DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256 along with DXD 352.8kHz and DXD 384kHz.
There’s also a dedicated headphone amp using the Headphone Crossfeed Director system for added dimension to the music. McIntosh’s Power Guard prevents clipping that could damage the speakers or headphones. A Bass Boost feature provides five-step control of the lows.
The amplifier is housed in a polished stainless steel chassis that compliments the iconic glass front panel (yes, illuminated blue meters), knobs and brushed aluminium end caps, while the speakers are finished in luxurious, high gloss piano black.
You can combine the MXA80 with McIntosh’s similarly-sized MB50 streaming audio player and MP100 phono preamp to form the basis of a complete audio system.
The MXA80 is shipping now, so contact your dealer for more details.
