Pyramid performance from Orange

BETTER known for its guitar and bass amplifiers since the late 1960s, UK brand Orange Amplification now offers a rather cute and compact audio system, The Pyramid. Comprising one unusual-looking component and a pair of speakers, it promises to deliver “powerful sound and exceptional connectivity”.

“The Bluetooth 5.0 enabled Pyramid amplifier is designed with a special wave balanced ‘analogue sound spectrum’, and carefully formulated to sound pleasing to the ear with a warm clean sound shaped to limit ‘ear fatigue’, a problem encountered with many modern sound systems,” Orange informs us.

The amp is capable of delivering 40 watts per channel amplifier into four ohms, and is “eco-friendly, cool-running and highly efficient”, with a “beautifully made wooden cabinet with a white piano finish and a prism at the top which subtly glows indicating the mode of operation”.

As for connectivity, there’s Bluetooth, along with RCA and 3.5mm inputs, enough to appeal to both music and AV fans. Volume is controlled by a knob on the front of the Pyramid amp, while discrete treble and bass controls at the rear of the unit let you tune the sound. There is also a left- right channel balancing dial and a Bluetooth reset button.

The two paired speakers, with reflex ports, each use a one-inch soft silk dome tweeter, for “a smooth pleasing transitional bass response at the bottom end with special care given to the mid spread”.

“The Orange Pyramid system has been outwardly designed as a work of art that will suit any decor and has the company’s signature hieroglyphs around the base.”

It’s already in stores, for those keen. We’re wondering, though why the Pyramid doesn’t come in Orange’s trademark livery of, er, orange or black…
